HOMEMADE EVERYTHING BAGEL SEASONING RECIPE

Growing up in a quiet, suburban town in Connecticut, the nightlife for a teenager was limited. Our options consisted of hanging out in various parking lots around town. Most of them were part of an athletic complex, so other than standing there and staring at each other, there wasn’t much else to do there.

If we wanted something more sophisticated, then it was an evening spent standing around in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot on the edge of town. That is where I started my long-term relationship with a large French vanilla iced coffee (cream and sugar, please), and an Everything Bagel with cream cheese. That long-term relationship opened the doors to more recent encounters like: Tik-Tok Ramen, and Everything Bagel Cream Cheese Dip! None of which would be possible without this Everything Bagel Seasoning.

If none of the above sound interesting, I guess you could make your own bagels, sprinkle this on top of them, and go stand in a parking lot somewhere.

WHAT IS EVERYTHING BAGEL SEASONING?

Much like most culinary fads, the origin of Everything Bagel Seasoning is wrapped in confusion, controversy, and credit-taking. But one thing is for certain, it was invented by bagel makers, and quickly adopted by cooks, chefs, and House Hunks as a way of adding savory flavors and a bit of texture to otherwise bland and soft snacks.

WHAT DOES THIS HOMEMADE EVERYTHING BAGEL SEASONING TASTE LIKE?

Salty and savory. Nothing more, nothing less. Since the seasoning consists of very basic ingredients in your spice rack, there is not much else to it. However, its uses are seemingly endless. There are even recipes now for Everything Bagel Ice Cream.
