HOMEMADE ADOBO SEASONING RECIPE

WHAT IS ADOBO?

Adobo is both a spice blend and a marinade. You can do a dry rub with this, or add some oils and use it to marinate meat. The word “adobo” comes from adobar, which translates to “to marinate”. Makes sense.

Adobo is found in kitchens all over Latin America, Asia, Africa, and now yours!

You may also come across the term Adobado, which refers to any food that has been marinated with Adobo marinade. Commonly found in the Caribbean, Latin American, and Spanish kitchens.

WHAT DOES THIS ADOBO SEASONING TASTE LIKE?

If there is one thing that everyone can agree upon, it is that Adobo does not lack flavor. This adobo spice blend has a mix of garlic and chili powder, so you get some depth and heat. And there is an earthy undertone from oregano, cumin, and onion. Perfect for adding some kick to the most boring cuts of meat.

CAN YOU MAKE ADOBO SEASONING AHEAD OF TIME?

Absolutely! I like to have a jar of this adobo spice on hand for whenever the craving strikes.

As a rule of thumb, when making spice blends: the earliest expiration date on your ingredients is now the new expiration date for your homemade spice recipe.

CAN YOU FREEZE ADOBO SEASONING?

Though it is not necessary to freeze this adobo spice mix, you can store it in the freezer. If you do, make sure it is an airtight, freezer-safe container to keep the original flavors fresh.
