However, there’s one thing that can put a damper on my baking plans – waiting for butter to soften. We’ve all been there, right? You’re ready to get started on a recipe, but the butter is rock-solid from the fridge. Waiting for it to soften can feel like an eternity, especially when you’re in the baking mood. Well, you have a few options, you can either hit pause for about an hour or more while you wait for the butter to soften on your countertop, you can skip baking altogether, or you can use the convenient kitchen hack and get back on track on your way to some delicious cookies in under 15 minutes!

HOW TO SOFTEN BUTTER QUICKLY

  1. Fill a 1 cup glass measuring cup with water.
  2. Microwave on HIGH until it reaches a rapid boil, approximately 3 minutes.
  3. Right when the cook time on the microwave expires, quickly open the microwave and place plate of butter slices inside next to cup of steaming water, and shut the door.
  4. Let butter sit undisturbed in closed microwave for 6-7 minutes.
  5. Your butter is now softened and ready for baking!

WHAT KITCHEN TOOLS DO I NEED TO QUICKLY SOFTEN BUTTER?

  1. A sharp knife
  2. A saucer or small plate, I find a salad plate will work fine for two sticks of butter.
  3. A microwave
  4. A glass measuring cup or microwave safe bowl or mug.
