Though referred to as “lazy lasagna”, it still has all the flavors of authentic lasagna. Ravioli Lasagna is just easier to make!
RAVIOLI LASAGNA RECIPE
When it comes to lasagna, I am like Garfield the Cat. I love them. However, they can be quite a labor-intensive meal to prepare. Enter Lasagna made with frozen ravioli. You get the same great Italian flavors, with minimal effort. This meal is perfect for busy weeknights, for taking to a potluck, or a even a tailgate party.
WHAT IS RAVIOLI LASAGNA?
This is an easy and quicker way of making lasagna. This recipe is perfect for busy dads and moms, or for people just wanting to have a quick and easy lasagna dinner. The recipe tosses out the steps of messing with lasagna noodle prep. Here, we take frozen, cheese filled raviolis and layer them with ground beef and sauce. It is very easy to prepare.
WHAT DOES THIS LAZY LASAGNA TASTE LIKE?
Lazy Lasagna, or lasagna made with ravioli, tastes just like traditional lasagna, the only difference is that instead of layers of ricotta cheese and lasagna noodles, we are stacking frozen raviolis. Same taste, minimal effort.
RAVIOLI LASAGNA INGREDIENTS
- Ground beef – 1 pound
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, diced
- Minced garlic – 2 cloves
- Whole milk ricotta cheese – 16 ounces
- 1 large egg
- Grated parmesan cheese – 1 cup (divided)
- Chopped fresh basil – 1/4 cup
- Garlic powder – 1 teaspoon
- Frozen cheese ravioli – two 12 oz. packages
- Marinara sauce – one 32 oz. jar
- Shredded mozzarella cheese – 2 cups
HOW TO MAKE THIS LAZY LASAGNA RECIPE
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat a 9 x 13″ baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large skillet on the stove, over medium-high heat, add ground beef and onions. Cook, stirring frequently until ground beef is browned and onions have softened and are slightly translucent, about 10 minutes. Drain liquids and return skillet to stovetop. Stir in minced garlic and marinara sauce, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, add ricotta, egg, 1/4 cup parmesan, basil leaves, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.
- Spread 1/3 of the meat sauce across the baking dish. Top with a layer of ravioli, another 1/3 of the meat sauce, half of the ricotta mixture, half of the mozzarella cheese, and the remaining parmesan. Repeat layers again, with the final top layer being the rest of the mozzarella cheese.
- Cover pan loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove aluminum foil and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the cheese on top is bubbly and starting to brown.
- Garnish with basil (optional), and serve hot.
CAN YOU MAKE RAVIOLI LASAGNA AHEAD OF TIME?
Just like traditional lasagna, you can make this ahead of time and reheat it when you are ready to eat! This meal is great for having leftovers for a couple nights. Yum!
CAN YOU FREEZE RAVIOLI LASAGNA?
Yes, you can freeze this lasagna after you have cooked it. Store it in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
WHAT TO SERVE WITH LAZY LASAGNA?
Much like a regular lasagna recipe, a small salad, and some breadsticks are the only accompanying sides necessary. Want to go all out on your Italian feast? Start with some minestrone soup, and end with a delicious easy tiramisu.
