HOMEMADE BUFFALO WING SEASONING RECIPE
Major events. We tend to remember where we were, what we were doing, and possibly the hat we were wearing when tragedy, good fortune, or teen angst struck. Super Bowl XXXIV. Hooters at the Carousel Mall in Syracuse, NY. And probably wearing an Abercrombie hat, brim curved to perfection. That’s the backdrop of my first Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. The spice was perfect, and the garlic was ever-present. And I am still surprised that the Titans got stopped at the 1-yard line to miss tying the game with seconds remaining.
WHAT ARE BUFFALO WINGS?
Much like the Cuban Sandwich, the origin story of Buffalo Wings is wrapped in controversy, lies, and credit-taking. But, I am going to take the word of the good people at the National Chicken Council, and tell you that the buffalo wing was invented by Teressa Bellissimo, co-owner of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY, back in 1964. Sounds legit, so I am going to go with it.
WHAT DOES THIS BUFFALO WING SEASONING TASTE LIKE?
Buffalo chicken seasoning is spicy, loaded with garlic, and has a hint of smokiness. It is a flavor that you won’t mistake for something else.
CAN YOU MAKE BUFFALO WING SEASONING AHEAD OF TIME?
Absolutely! I like to have a jar of this buffalo chicken seasoning, and all sorts of homemade spices on hand for whenever the craving strikes.
As a rule of thumb, when making spice blends: the earliest expiration date on your ingredients is now the new expiration date for your homemade Buffalo seasoning.
CAN YOU FREEZE BUFFALO DRY RUB SPICES?
Though it is not necessary to freeze this buffalo chicken seasoning, you can store it in the freezer. If you do, make sure it is an airtight, freezer-safe container to keep the original flavors fresh.
WHAT TO SERVE USING THIS BUFFALO WING SEASONING?
Buffalo Chicken Seasoning is perfect if you want to add a little heat and kick to your popcorn. You can also mix it up in Ranch dressing to spice up a boring salad! Craving more Buffalo Chicken variations? Check out these recipes:
