Celery Salt is a seasoning blend that provides not only saltiness but an added level of flavor without being too overpowering. It works best with dishes that are a little bit lacking in flavor. For instance, imagine potato salad without savory flavors. The seasoning also compliments dishes that have a lot of carrots or onions in them, like the base of a vegetable broth. It is also commonly used to rim the glass for a bloody mary.
Celery Salt for the most part tastes like salt, however, there is a bit of a “green” earthy bite to it, thanks to the crushed celery seed. Some people might even say that it has a slight peppery taste to it as well.
This celery salt is very easy to make, and should only take a minute or two.
Absolutely! I like to have a jar of this and all sorts of homemade spices and seasonings on hand for whenever the craving strikes.
As a rule of thumb, when making spice blends: the earliest expiration date on your ingredients is now the new expiration date for your homemade seasoning blends.
