Quiche Lorraine, it’s not just for breakfast anymore! Enjoy egg custard, cheese, bacon, and a flaky crust any time of the day!
THE BEST QUICHE LORRAINE RECIPE
Back in the early 1980s a book was published titled Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche. It was satirical, however, for many, the damage was done. Because the title became popular, many men took it seriously and avoided quiche. Sadly, a whole generation of men missed out on culinary delights such as Quiche Florentine, Cheese and Fresh Herb Quiche, and Quiche Lorraine – possibly the most popular quiche of all time. Well, I am here to tell you, real men do eat quiche, so do real women, and real beagles if you let them clean your plate! If your masculinity can’t handle it, then just tell yourself that you are eating “unsweetened custard pie with bacon”. It kind of rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it? House Hunk presents to you: Quiche Lorraine.
WHAT IS CLASSIC QUICHE LORRAINE?
This quiche recipe originates from the Lorraine region of France. Minimally, it is an unsweetened custard. But this recipe is so much more than that. It is savory, creamy, hearty, and all prepared in a deliciously flaky pie crust!
WHAT DOES THIS QUICHE TASTE LIKE?
Quiche Lorraine is a very creamy and rich recipe. The bacon is savory, and the nutmeg rounds out the flavor profile. This recipe is not as “eggy” as other quiche recipes since there is a significant amount of heavy whipping cream compared to the number of eggs.
QUICHE LORRAINE INGREDIENTS
- 1 prepared frozen deep-dish pie crust
- Cooked bacon crumbles – 8 ounces
- Whole milk – 1 cup
- Heavy whipping cream – 1/2 cup
- 3 large eggs
- Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground black pepper – 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground nutmeg – 1/8 teaspoon
- Shredded Gruyere cheese – 1 cup
- Fresh chives, chopped – 1 tablespoon
HOW TO MAKE THIS QUICHE LORRAINE RECIPE
For such a delicate recipe, quiches are extremely easy to prepare. If you can beat an egg, you can make this recipe!
- Preheat oven to 350°
- In a bowl, vigorously whisk together eggs, milk, whipping, cream nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Stir in chives.
- Spread bacon crumbles and shredded cheese evenly across the bottom of the pie crust.
- Pour in the egg mixture.
- Bake in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until eggs are fully cooked. Quiche will deflate a little when removed from the oven, that’s normal.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
CAN YOU MAKE THIS EASY QUICHE LORRAINE AHEAD OF TIME?
Quiche will stay fresh for a couple of days as long as you refrigerate it. If you are making this recipe a few hours in advance to bring to an event or party, then you will want to cover it with aluminum foil to prevent it from drying out.
CAN YOU FREEZE QUICHE?
I would not recommend freezing this quiche recipe. The liquids would start to seep out of the egg, and the crust just wouldn’t stand up to the sogginess after a while. It is best enjoyed within a day or two of cooking.
WHAT TO SERVE WITH QUICHE LORRAINE?
This quiche recipe is perfectly capable of being served on its own. However, if you want to add some more delicious breakfast items to your breakfast or brunch spread, make sure you check out these recipes:
